Gratitude Day 9
What made you laugh today?
I like to laugh. It makes my heart lighter and helps me to not take things so seriously all the time.
When I was little, I wanted laughter to be my job title. Just ask my mom. When people would ask me what I wanted to do when I was little, I would say, "I just want to make people laugh."
I still like to make people laugh. I like to help people check their burdens from life at the door, and remember, even if just for a moment, what it's like to feel joy.
I work at an incredible church and am surrounded by kids every Wednesday and Sunday that teach me how to laugh. This past Wednesday, we talked about gratitude and why it's important to thank the people that help us.
Before we dove into that conversation, I asked the kids why they liked Thanksgiving.
I got some serious answers, like spending time with family, but I also got some silly answers.
One kid proudly yelled, "PUMPKIN PIE!"
Another, "TURKEY!"
Those answers made me smile and laugh along with the kids! We can all agree that the food is a great part of Thanksgiving.
We also did a Tween Retreat last weekend at church, and one of the kids' favorite songs was Big House by Audio Adrenaline. Watching the kids sing and dance along to this song brought back precious memories from my childhood! We all had a ton of fun with that song and laughed at each other's silly dance moves.
Friends, it's important to laugh. It's necessary, especially in these days, to take a moment to breathe. Turn off the news and watch a silly movie. Disconnect from social media and spend time with your family.
Remember to laugh. Allow the Father to show you joy in the mundane and in your moments of darkness. Choose to be a beacon of love and light and joy.
