Have You Asked?
I'm a Spanish major with a minor in education, and an ESL endorsement. I am hoping to teach and have my own classroom in the near future! In order to become licensed in the state of TN, I have to pass a series of Praxis tests. Two are out of the way, with another one coming in November. (I find out the results of my second one on Friday!)
Anyway, the last Praxis exam that I have to take is my Spanish Praxis exam. It will test all the domains: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. I've had friends that have taken it, and failed it. Then they went to Spain, got to speak the language regularly, came back, and failed it again. Even my advisor at school said, "You probably won't pass it the first time. Don't be surprised if you don't."
I was lamenting, telling my sister all of this. Sharing all my insecurities and anxieties about this upcoming test, she takes a deep breath.
She says, "You will pass it the first time. You will succeed. Ask it. Your perfect passing score is in heaven... Just ask. You have not because you ask not. Ask now for the knowledge and supernatural ability to remember and recall every tiny snippet of info. Every time I've asked, He's been faithful to show me what I've asked."
Well, that hit me like a sack of bricks. One phrase in particular stuck with me:
You have not because you ask not.
My eyes filled with tears as the weight of that phrase saturated my heart. My fears of failure were stilled. I am so grateful that the Father works through those in our own lives to give us His revelations that can change our entire thought processes.
You have not because you ask not.
What kinds of things are you asking of the Father lately?
For peace? For hope? For a new friend?
Take your concerns to the Lord, friends. He cares about us. He is faithful to show us what we are asking for.
The Lord has been laying it on my heart to be expectant. To expect Him to show up, to expect Him to mold me, to expect Him to guide me and show me who to be praying for. I am expecting divine encounters these days, friends.
As we get comfortable with being uncomfortable this October, may we stay expectant. I'm praying that the Lord will give us fresh downloads and testimonies as we enter into the fall and darker months of winter.
