My Shield, My Jesus
What's the first thing you think of when you think of protection? Go ahead, think for a minute. What embodies the idea of protection for you? Maybe it's a hug from someone you love, your home, or, if you're like me, a very literal picture comes to mind.
For me, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of protection is a shield. A shield is generally used in battle, and protects your body from harm: in the olden days, often from a sword. A shield is used to protect and preserve. I love thinking about the Father as my shield. Isn't it beautiful that the same One who created the entire universe likes to hold us in His arms and protect us? He is such a good Father!
Psalm 28:7 has always been such a comfort to me. The verse reads, "The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving."
This week, I had a very real experience of the Father being my shield. I was driving to work on Wednesday. The light turned green, and I continued forward. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a van moving very quickly. Too quickly for the red light that I knew he had on his side. Suddenly, it ocurred to me: this man was not going to stop. With my adrenaline pumping, I hit the breaks just in time to avoid being t-boned by the other driver. If I had been going any faster through that intersection, the driver would've plowed right into me.
I am grateful that He protects us, even in seemingly mundane moments of life like driving to work. I am grateful that He is always orchestrating, always showing His hand of mercy and love!
Take some time to commune with the Father today. He loves to spend time with us!
