Clarity in Questions
This blog post is part of my 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Challenge! You can read all about that challenge and see the rest of that journey here. The word for today is: Why.
Each season of my life has been hallmarked by a different question that I'm asking in my relationship with Him.
How, God?
What, Lord?
When, Lord?
Where, Lord?
Why, Lord?
Some seasons, it feels like all of these questions all at once. I am so grateful that He never tires of my questions!
While He doesn't always answer in the way that I expect, or really want Him to, I'm acutely aware that He always answers with what I need to know for the next step.
The picture that God has given me is of a tapestry that He's creating - tapestries are ornate. There are lots of small, defined details, and the person stitching would really need to be paying close attention! The creator of the tapestry would have to be vigilant, and watching to be sure they know how it's all going to weave together.
God weaves a stunning tapestry with all of our lives - each story we have another stitch, each season another line. Whether I've felt the vibrancy of life in a stunning green, or am feeling the weight of different demands in a shade of brown, He never stops weaving and working on my tapestry.
In the midst of my "why" season, a dear friend offered me some perspective: When you stand on the ground, how far can you really see in front of you? What about when you're in an airplane? How much can you see then? It's like we're on the ground and God is in the airplane. We have a ten foot view, and God has a 40,000 foot view.
When I look back over my life, I can see the answers weaved into the tapestry itself; my current circumstances answering my "why."
Moments of pain or loneliness have been answered by blessings I'm rejoicing in now.
Days or months spent in confusion have been given clarity by the One with the 40,000 foot view!
When I think about the tapestry God has weaved in my own life, my "whys" were small stitches in the greater work that He is doing!
Be encouraged. Whatever question you find yourself asking, know that He will infuse you with fresh strength to tackle the question you're walking through. The Lord is not stitching your tapestry out of haste and frustration, but rather, like a master weaver, with great attention to detail. The details of your life matter. While we cannot always see the larger section of what He's working on, know that you can trust Him with every stitch.
