Support
The word for this week is support. Ready?
3, 2, 1...
//I started an internship last Friday at a local elementary school. I am a classroom assistant, spending time with the Hispanic students speaking to them in their home language: Spanish. I'm supporting their language development in their first language. Fun fact: when children have a different first language other than English, strengthening their skills in their first language makes learning English a good bit easier.
Before I met the kids at this internship, I was not only terrified by the prospect of using my second language- I was almost kind of irritated that I had to do this for a class in college.
To me, it was one more thing I had to add to my already overwhelming schedule. I couldn't fathom the idea of adding something else that I have to do.
So, in all my humanness, what do I do? I lamented. I complained. I told people you'll never guess what I have to do and I can't believe I'm adding something else to my schedule and I guess this will be fine; I just have to go do it.
I honestly had a really terrible attitude.
Friday morning, as I was wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of getting ready for a busy day, Jesus spoke to my heart ever so gently... "Haven't I always given you what you needed? Why would today be any different? Look at this like a mission field." //
Oh, my goodness. My heart melted in the face of His gentle love. In that moment, the King of the Universe supported my own heart in the midst of uncertainty!
The students that I am working with are in Pre-K, and they all have such cool personalities! It was very sweet to see them welcome me so eagerly into their classroom. It is amazing to watch the ways that language can connect and support us... And I am so grateful that my Heavenly Father never stops supporting me!
